The questions that matter
Does it move or change my files?
No. Not one file is relocated, renamed or touched. SCL builds a topic view OVER the drive you already have. Delete SCL and your files are exactly where they were, untouched.
Is it really local, or is that marketing?
Really local. In local mode nothing about your work leaves your machine — you can unplug the network cable and keep working, and we show exactly that on camera. Two connections do exist in every mode and we name them rather than round them down: a licence sign-in and an update check, neither carrying document content. Point a packet capture at it and check us — /proof tells you how. Anonymised mode exists for when you want a frontier model; we state plainly what still leaves in that mode, because it is not nothing.
What exactly leaves in anonymised mode?
Only a stripped request — your content is anonymised before anything goes out. It reduces your exposure; it does not close it, and we say so. The details, at behaviour level, are on the privacy page.
What does it cost?
Free keeps every feature. $1 buys a privacy analysis of your own content plus generated topic names. $20/$30/$40 prepays 1/2/3 years of immediate updated-content access. $89 and $289 are one-time professional toolsets. No subscription is required for anything essential.
What happens if you disappear?
Your files were never ours to hold — they are on your machine, unmoved, in their original formats. Everything SCL generates stays usable locally. If we vanish, you lose nothing. We get to stay in your life only one way: by being worth having around.
Isn't this Zotero with a chatbot?
No — and it works alongside Zotero rather than replacing it. Zotero manages references; SCL understands contents: faithful paraphrases at three depths, question-and-answer on any paper, and cross-links across everything you hold. 3,000,000 papers come already prepared, so your first session starts with results, not setup.
